Welcome to the Islam’s PR Challenges blog!
I am a passionate humanitarian, and believe in the power of dialogue and communication. I believe that all of the world’s problems could be solved if we were devoted to education, dialogue and shared values. According to a prominent Turkish Muslim scholar, Fethullah Gulen, the unfortunate reality is that poverty, ignorance and disunity create social ills.
This is especially true in the Muslim world. Most crippled by these traits is the middle east. The world observes with both confusion and concern at the developments in the mid-east, and understandably – but incorrectly – attribute overly-horrific traits to the entire faith of Islam. Those foreign to the actual tenets of a faith, and to a region, cannot escape their ill-feeling reactions and impressions when they encounter negative media coverage. It’s simply unavoidable. If more positive coverage existed, however, it would give more people an opportunity to have a balanced view and make their judgments accordingly.
The religion of Islam has a serious perception issue due to constant negative media coverage. This blog will explore the public relations challenges Islam faces and possible avenues people can take to help improve its image in the West.
“Be so tolerant that your bosom becomes wide like the ocean. Become inspired with faith and love of human beings. Let there be no troubled souls to whom you do not offer a hand and about whom you remain unconcerned.”
-Turkish Islamic Scholar, F. Gulen
